Year 5 and 6 Selective Placement Test
The NSW Selective High School Placement Test is designed to identify academically gifted students for admission to selective high schools in New South Wales, Australia. The test assesses students’ proficiency in English, Mathematics, Thinking Skills, and Writing. The key focuses of the test are to evaluate students’ critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, language and literacy skills, and potential for advanced academic achievement. The test aims to provide a fair and transparent selection process for students seeking entry into selective schools, ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates.
Important Points:
Writing Test: Students are required to demonstrate their ability to construct well-structured and coherent essays or narrative format, showcasing their writing proficiency in various styles. They must write according to the instructions and have 30mins to complete the test.
English Reading: The English component assesses students’ reading comprehension, language analysis, and writing skills, including creative and persuasive writing.
Mathematics Reasoning Test: Students are evaluated on their mathematical proficiency, problem-solving abilities, and understanding of concepts and then to applying to problems with questions drawn from a range of content areas.
Thinking Skills Test: This segment measures students’ cognitive abilities, including verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, and critical thinking skills. There are a range of different question types in the test

The admin and owners of the centre were efficient and professional. They explained the structure of their centre very well, they were super easy and friendly to speak to and were very accomodating. Classes are small and cosy, so kids are getting good amount of attention but relaxed with a small group of friends. My son’s confidence in math has improved, he is enjoying the classes and he says that the content aligns with what he is learning at school, sometimes even more than the local school’s content. There are some light homework which he does happily by himself, so that’s a sign of good teaching and a learner enjoying the lessons!
